Doing your research before you buy anything is a common practice. This is especially true when considering a new heating and cooling system for your home. There are a lot of factors to consider, so we put together a few “need-to-knows” to help you avoid common ductless air conditioner buying mistakes.

Thinking Bigger Is Better Is One Of The Worst Ductless Air Conditioner Buying Mistakes

While size may matter to some people, it’s not that helpful when it comes to keeping your home at the right temperature. What you want to focus on is the SEER rating that comes with your ductless air conditioner. SEER is the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio and it is the best indicator for how efficient your system will be. The higher the rating, the better. However, higher ratings tend to carry higher price tags, but they will also save you more on energy bills each month.

More Ductless Air Conditioner Buying Mistakes: Bargain Hunting & Self-Installation

While the price is always a factor in upgrading your home, it’s important to not be stingy here. It’s okay to ask for different options with high SEER ratings, but you don’t want to settle for something that won’t get the job done properly either. Finding this balance comes from working with a professional installer on this project.

Self-installation as a way to save money is the last of the 3 big ductless air conditioner buying mistakes. The installation itself won’t be too difficult if you’ve had experience. If you are a novice though, you could end up making an error that would compromise the integrity of the unit, void any warranty, or shorten the overall life cycle of your ductless air conditioner. That could mean repair bills or replacing your heating and cooling before you normally would. Leave it to the professionals instead. Most installers offer a warranty and can answer any questions you have so you get peace of mind.

Ductless Air Conditioner Buying Mistakes Are Easy To Avoid

My name is Susan and I recently had to replace the furnace in my home because it was old, noisy and inefficient. I’m a relatively new homeowner (moving into my first home earlier this year), so naturally, I’m not too familiar with Toronto home heating options. Do I go with a new furnace or boiler or maybe a combi-boiler – whatever that is. Luckily, someone told me about Air Tech Toronto and this is how my experience learning about Toronto Home Heating Options went.

My Toronto Home Heating Options Weren’t So Confusing

I called Air Tech Toronto as soon as I started experiencing issues with my heating system. This was probably late in the winter months or maybe even early spring, so I wasn’t in desperate need of heat on a daily basis. When I told them about how the heat wasn’t really coming in steady, they were able to send out someone to assess the situation right away.

Now, I already knew ahead of time that my heating would need to be replaced sooner than later when I moved in – courtesy of my realtor. Apparently the unit was pushing 20 years old and even though it was running smooth, furnaces don’t normally last much longer than that. Sure enough, I was right.

Once Novel Care arrived, we had a much more detailed discussion about my furnace as well as how much a novice I am when it comes to being a homeowner. My technician, Dave, was very sympathetic to my situation and started to lay out my Toronto home heating options going forward.

To keep things simple here, it was really only 2 options that I needed. I have a bigger home that was left to me by my uncle, so combi boilers and ductless units didn’t make much sense to use. They’re better for smaller space living – like condos. That left me with either a boiler or a new furnace. Since I already had the ductwork in place, Dave recommended a new furnace. Boilers are great Toronto home heating options too but in this specific case, a furnace made sense financially. No point in letting all that ductwork go to waste.

I’m very grateful for the team at Air Tech Toronto. I’m still learning more and more about the basic systems in my home, but having this team respond quickly to my call and walk me through my options was something I really appreciate. I’d recommend Air Tech Toronto any day.

Professional Toronto Ductless AC Repair Services

If you own a ductless AC Toronto or somewhere in the GTA, then it is important that you are aware of the unique needs of your system. Therefore, we have provided a light list of ductless repair needs below. Keep reading to learn more!

While professional Toronto ductless AC repair and maintenance is essential for the health of your ductless system, there are some things you can keep an eye out for in between ductless appointments.

Water Leaks

Each of the wall-mounted air handlers in your home has a series of connections routed through a hole behind it. These connections include a power line, a refrigerant line, and a condensate line. The condensate line is responsible for removing water moisture from the cooling process so it doesn’t enter your home.

However, the condensate line may develop leaks over time, causing water to collect between the back of the air handler and the wall. Eventually, this can lead to structural damage to the wall and can cause the air handler to fall. Not only will you have to deal with the cost of repairing your wall, but you are also going to have to replace the air handler. Ensuring that your condensate line is in good shape is an easy way to avoid these problems. As you notice any sign of water on the wall surrounding the air handler then give it a long hard look and if you aren’t sure or see damage then call us for professional Toronto ductless AC repair services.

Broken Air Handlers

Over time, you may find that the air handlers in your home start to experience some wear and tear, which can lead to malfunctioning. this can mean they’re either not producing enough or any output to keep your home cool. Although this can be a nuisance, it is not as big of a deal as you might think. Sure, the room it is located in might be warmer than other areas of your home, however, the rest of the air handlers in your house should continue to operate normally. It is very rare that you should ever need to replace the entire ductless system.

Basically, all you need to do is call a professional Toronto ductless AC repair technician from Air Tech Toronto. We will drop by, check out your air handler and provide you with a free estimate for repairs or replacement. It’s that easy.

Refrigerant Leaks

Your ductless system works much like a traditional air conditioner, relying on the flow of refrigerant to transfer heat from one place to another. But what sets the ductless system apart is that it has significantly more refrigerant lines than a traditional AC, which means that the chance of a refrigerant leak is much higher. Signs of a refrigerant leak include a decline in cooling power and odd hissing noises. You might even notice fluid dripping from the system. If you suspect that you are dealing with this type of leak, be sure to contact an expert right away.

Being a homeowner is Toronto and the GTA isn’t easy and requires you to question just about every repair bill, maintenance fee, and any other cost that will inevitably rear its head. In the end, it all comes down to balance. You don’t want to book everything all at once, and you also can’t ignore everything in hopes it will get better. That’s exactly why booking fall duct cleaning is a good idea.

September & October Are Perfect Months For Fall Duct Cleaning

Luckily, duct cleaning is one of those things that doesn’t need to be done more than once a year in your home. This cuts down on cost and lets you save your hard earned money. The reason why the early fall months are the best times to book one is that it’s just before winter.

As the temperature drops, chances are you will be spending more and more time indoors to stay warm. Combine that with spending more money than you’d like around the holidays and you might find yourself hibernating until spring. More time inside means you have to remember to consider the air quality in your home. Over the year, vents and ductwork pick up debris in the air. This can build up over time and actually increase the risk for respiratory issues or even allergies for those of you with pets. Simply put, the air in your home is stuck in a vicious circle when your ductwork isn’t cleaned – and being exposed to that isn’t good for you or those you live with. Luckily, Air Tech Toronto can help.

If you live in Toronto and the GTA, you know that it’s not cheap. From entertainment and dining out just finding parking or commuting through the city, saving money isn’t easy. That’s why it’s so important to follow best practices at home – where you can actually help control costs each month. Having a high efficiency hot water heater can help with that.

High Efficiency Hot Water Heaters Use Less Water

The biggest benefit of going the high efficiency way over the traditional model is that these don’t need to store water. Traditional water heaters are known for being big due to their large tanks that store and heat water. A tankless high efficiency hot water heater can do this same thing though, and it takes up much less space in your home. In fact, it heats water as you need it, which is why it’s the preferred solution in condos and smaller homes. Less water also means a smaller bill each month.

Saving Space With A High Efficiency Hot Water Heater

Having a big luxurious home with space to spare isn’t realistic for everyone in Toronto and the GTA. If you have a home, chances are you’ll want to use every bit of space you own. Unlike traditional hot water heaters, a high efficiency tankless model can fit in a closet, rather than a small section of a basement.

Tankless High Efficiency Hot Water Heaters Won’t Explode

Explode might be a bit dramatic, but if a traditional hot water bursts in your home, that can be just as dramatic. Tankless models have a fail safe that will click in if there is an error, and with no water actually being held in the system, there is no chance for it to burst.

All of these benefits are common knowledge for any HVAC professional, so be sure to consult with one before choosing to upgrade to a tankless unit.

Toronto and the GTA can have some pretty extreme weather. It’s either unbearable in the summer with humidity or freezing cold in the winter, so it’s important to know what your options are when it comes to heating and cooling. See why heat pumps might just be your best bet.

Heating And Cooling 101 – What You Need To Know

Unless you work in the world of HVAC, it can be pretty confusing to know the differences between central air conditioning and ductless, or heat pumps and boilers.

First things first, heat pumps are 100% useful in both the summer and winter months. When it gets hot out, the system works to pull in air from outside, cools it, and distributes it indoors. When it gets cold out, you can set it to heat your home. This time, the unit will pull in colder air and condense it so you only feel warm air coming in.

Another thing you should know is that heat pumps are great for keeping energy costs lower each month. They were actually designed to only control the temperature of a given area of your home at a time. This makes heat pumps great for heating and cooling living rooms, bedrooms and other frequently used spaces of your home – but not all at once. You should always consider asking a professional for an assessment to see if heat pumps make sense for your home. If you have a smaller, well-insulated space, then they could be your best option.

Air Tech Toronto Can Handle Your Heating And Cooling Needs

We’ve spent more than 30 years serving Toronto and the GTA, so we know a thing or two about heating and cooling. While heat pumps are a fantastic option, we always take the time to meet with you to assess your home, discuss your needs, and answer any questions you may have before any work is done. This ensures you have all the information you need to make an informed decision about your home. After all, these are typically big investments, and we want you to feel confident in your choice.

Whether it’s a heat pump, furnace, central air conditioner, or boiler, let us help you find the right answer for your heating and cooling needs. Give us a call at 905-737-5016 to learn more about your options. We’re even available 24/7 in the event of an emergency.

My name is Alex and I recently just bought a condo in the east end of the city. The building itself is a bit older and everyone is responsible for his or her own air conditioning/furnace. Since my building is at least 15 years old, I knew there was a chance I’d have some trouble with my HVAC. And that’s exactly what happened. I made the mistake of calling someone my property manager recommended without checking up on them first. Now I’m still dealing with these guys for my central heating repair and winter is almost over!

Should’ve Gone With Air Tech Toronto For Central Heating Repair

After countless calls and emails with this HVAC company, it’s slowly starting to become clear that maybe they aren’t as professional as I’d originally hoped. Sure they came recommended by my property manager, but that’s only because they’ve had some experience with my building. It had nothing to do with how good they were. It was just a matter of convenience!

Naturally I did some digging into other HVAC companies who might be able to help with my central heating repair needs, and Air Tech Toronto was the first one to get back to me. They were nice enough to answer my questions and listen to my situation. Thanks to them I was able to actually get a qualified professional to take a look at my furnace within a few hours of my call.

They recommended I let the other company finish up since they were the official installers and it wouldn’t cost me anything, but I just wanted this to be done. I should’ve just called Air Tech Toronto from the start.

Central Heating Repair Is One Of The Many Things We Have To Offer

At Air Tech Toronto, we’ve spent the past 30 years taking care of HVAC problems around Toronto and the GTA. Rest assured there’s nothing we’ve haven’t seen, installed, or repaired when it comes to central heating and ductless options for heating and cooling. That’s why our dedicated team works hard to get the job done right the first time. We know the value in making our customers’ lives easier, so give us a call at 905-737-5016. Whether it’s central heating repair, installations, or any other HVAC problem, we’d be more than happy to help!

As a homeowner in Toronto and the GTA, you know that repairs and upgrades to your place don’t come cheap. That’s why it’s so important to do some research and know what your options are before investing in some central heating alternatives like heat pumps.

Heat Pumps Make A Great Central Heating Alternative

For those of you who may not know about heat pumps, they are a ductless option. A heat pump pulls in air from outside, condenses it, and pushes it indoors through a single unit.

Since they don’t distribute warm air throughout the entire home, heat pumps are quite different than central heating. They don’t require vents or necessary ductwork associated with central heating, making them a very efficient option for heating specific areas of your home. Most people will have one unit per floor that will either be in a bedroom or living room. Having these smaller units relies on you only wanting to warm the most heavily used areas of your home. The idea is that by heating only the rooms you use most, you won’t be wasting energy heating up your entire living space. This keeps monthly energy bills lower than if you had central heating in place.

Naturally, if you already have the ductwork in place and are familiar with central heating, installing heat pumps may not be for you. Yes, they are cheaper than replacing your furnace, but it really depends on the size of your home, and which areas you’d like to keep warmest in the winter months. Often times, furnaces can last for up to 20 years if properly maintained, so if yours isn’t broken, swapping it out for a heat pump instead may not be the best use of your money.

The only way you wouldn’t have noticed the leaves falling and the weather getting cooler is if you haven’t left your home for a while. As much as we all try to avoid it, winter is almost here and instead of trying to avoid it we need to prepare for it. Many older Toronto homes have furnace systems that need to be replaced, repaired or just need plain old maintenance. Whether they’re new or old these furnaces need fall furnace maintenance.

Scheduling a professional fall furnace maintenance appointment will give you and your family peace of mind that your home will be warm and toasty for the entire winter and spring. While keeping your house warm is a primary purpose of your furnace, there certainly are benefits of keeping it well maintained with fall furnace maintenance:

Energy Savings

When your furnace isn’t properly maintained it has to work harder than necessary in order to keep your home warm during cold winter days. Energy efficiency is important to maintain in all of your HVAC appliances, especially your furnace. There are lots of issues that can have a negative impact on furnace efficiency. When your furnace is running efficiently, it uses less energy, which mens it costs you less to operate it. Overall, fall furnace maintenance saves you money on your monthly heating bills.

Fewer Furnace Breakdowns & Furnace Repairs

A regularly scheduled fall furnace maintenance appointment is the best way to allow a Air Tech Toronto technician to service your furnace. This appointment allows our technicians to find issues with your furnace before they can turn into big problems. Preventative appointments like this prevent things from escalating and costing more to fix or even repair in both short and long term cases. Essentially, this appointment can help prevent breakdowns and repairs when you least expect them. The weather may not be ideal and your wallet might not be ready for the cost.

Longer Equipment Lifespan

An fall furnace maintenance appointment allows a Air Tech Toronto technician to go through a long checklist of things that need to be addressed on any make or model of furnace. They will tune up, clean and test your furnace to ensure that all moving parts and functions are working properly. While this is great way to keep your system working well, it will also help them last longer. Professional fall furnace maintenance basically means your equipment will last longer and run better, compared to equipment that’s not maintained.

There are a number of different types of furnace filters available to put in the furnace in your Toronto home. Beyond all the different types for different uses and seasons, there are also disposable and permanent ones that need to be evaluated. So you’ve asked yourself what are the different furnace filter types? Keep reading below to find out.

Disposable Fibreglass

Probably the most common type of furnace filter on the market is the disposable fibreglass filter. These are typically great for preventing large particles, dust and debris from being circulated throughout your home.

Disposable Electrostatic

Electrostatic filters are excellent for ridding homes of things like smoke, pet hair and other types of hair and dander. These filters will keep allergens and other small particles out of the air in your home.

Disposable Pleated

Though pleated filters are regarded to be the best product to eliminate mites and spores from the interior air in your home, these types of furnace filters do need to be changed frequently. If left unattended, a disposable pleated furnace filter can damage your  HVAC system.

Permanent Electrostatic

With a life expectancy of six to eight years, this filter can be easily cleaned in your household washing machine and put back into use. Interestingly, while this permanent model results in less waste, it has been found to be slightly less effective than a disposable electrostatic filter for allergens and small particulate matter.

One thing to note prior to buying a new furnace filter is to check out what you already have in your furnace, especially the size. Most furnaces have a specific size for furnace filters that needs to be adhered to. The existing style is also a good guideline for the next one you’re going to purchase, unless you have a specific need for filtering the air in your home.
